What to Expect in Ghana, Know Before You Go!

Besides being known for its rich history and cultural heritage, Ghana has been making waves recently in melanated circles. They took “mi casa es su casa” to the next level and opened their doors and arms to all of us looking to come home and reconnect with the Motherland.

If you’re planning your own homecoming to Ghana, there are a few things you need to know before you go:

Expect to Be Immersed in Culture

From the moment you step off the plane, Ghanaians will greet you with a warm welcome and treat you like one of their own.

And because you’re family, you’ll be expected to act as such. On every Travel Divas Ghana trip, you’ll be connected with locals and elders at a traditional naming ceremony along with an electrifying song and dance performance. Who knows? They might even invite you to join them!

You Might Need to Pack the Kleenex

Not to kill the vibe, but you may want to bring the tissues when we visit historic sites like Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle and Door of No Return. Our connection with Ghana runs deep because it’s the port where many of our ancestors saw Africa for the last time in the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

The castles are now museums and memorials where you can take a guided tour to learn about the history. It can get heavy, but we’ll be right there with you girlfriend.

Plus you’ll feel the pride swelling in your heart soon after when we visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which honors the first president of Ghana and one of the most prominent leaders of the African independence and Pan-African movements.

The Beauty of, Well, Everything!

Now, there’s beauty everywhere. But Ghana just hits different. The land, the people, the food – try not to fall in love before you make it home!

Feel the beat of the bustling city in Accra, experience the serenity of the rainforest at Kakum National Park and watch the Atlantic reach up to greet the land on the coast.

Then, let the music move you and learn a traditional dance or try your hand at haggling in the market. And you can’t leave without tasting the bold flavors of jollof rice, banku, fufu, and waakye that’ll have you asking for seconds before you finish your first.

One thing’s for certain: Ghana is unlike anywhere you’ve been before and yet it’ll feel like home as soon as you land. Ready to experience it for yourself? Save your spot on our next Ghana trip now: https://thetraveldivas.com/trip/ghana-2025.
